An Introduction to Cold Wax Medium and Oil

In this one day workshop you will explore the basic materials, tools, surfaces and painting techniques with this buttery, matte, luscious medium.

You will learn about building rich layers of colour and texture and experiment with various mark-making tools to create structure and energise expression.

This is process driven painting technique where you are constantly interacting with the paint surface – which makes it exciting and a journey of discovery!

Some of the things we will cover are:-

~ using cold wax medium
~ introduction to the tools
~ foundational layers and textures
~ working wet-in-wet
~ mark-making
~ understanding drying times
~ stencils/masking
~ pigments and particulates
~ mechanical and solvent reductions.

You will create a number of small paintings.

All materials are included in the fee. Places are limited to six participants.
Please bring some lunch and wear appropriate clothing.

About Heather Cowie

Heather began exhibiting in 1987 and has a Master in Creative Art from James Cook University (1994).

She moved to Europe in 1995 and has only recently returned to live in Armidale.

She has been painting with cold wax medium and oil for the past seven years and exhibited widely in the UK during her time there. This included 9 solo shows and 27 group exhibitions.

Most recently she had a small solo exhibition at Get Framed Armidale.
