Clare O’Hara Cooper

Clare is an Australian artist with over 25 years of experience as an oil painter. She holds degrees in Visual and Fine Arts from the University of Newcastle (NSW) and has completed painting certificates at Newcastle TAFE.

Alongside her formal education, Clare continues to pursue independent study, maintaining a deep commitment to the ongoing evolution of her practice.

Approaching each work with curiosity and intuition, Clare embraces the challenge of the blank canvas.

Her process is guided by an inner knowing rather than a predetermined outcome, allowing gut instinct to direct spontaneous marks, colour choices, and evolving forms.

Through this intuitive approach, the paint itself becomes an active participant in the work, creating a visual dialogue that unfolds organically.

Clare’s paintings are deeply personal, often leading to unexpected outcomes that reflect both internal landscapes and lived experience.

Her recent works explore themes of identity, nature, and interpretations of life spent camping in the Australian bush.

Willing to experiment with form and technique, she moves fluidly between vibrant colour palettes and subtle monochromatic studies to reveal her unique perspective on the world.

Clare has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Newcastle, Armidale, and Guyra, NSW.
