I paint in oils from my home studio in Armidale which is surrounded by gardens.
The art created in it flows from the texture, colour and design I see through my studio windows.
I also collect vintage crockery and patterned textiles and these, together with fruit and flowers, are the basis of my still life and floral compositions.
I spent most of my working years as a music teacher and came to a painting career later in life after returning from overseas overwhelmed with an urge to explore and develop the artistic interests of my youth.
I have had extensive training at Adelaide Central School of Art and been a participant in numerous workshops with some of Australia’s most successful painters.
I enjoy making slow art. That is, art where meticulous preparation, quality and attention to detail is key.
I blend traditional techniques with a modern edge, applying multiple layers of oil paint and glazes to capture the beauty and luminosity of my subjects.
I am now a full-time exhibiting artist, with paintings hanging in collections throughout Australia.
I enter competitions big and small which supports the art community and helps me hone my skills.
I also enjoy painting commissions. I recently won the prestigious Denis Diderot Art Grant and will be heading to France for two weeks next year for a residency at Chateau d’Orquevaux in the picturesque Champagne-Ardenne region.”
