Colley Whisson – Modern Impressionism

Colley Whisson

Sat 6, Sun 7 & Mon 8 June and /or Wed 10 & Thursday 11 June

NEAS is thrilled to be hosting two workshops in June 2026 with renowned Australian artist Colley Whisson.

Attendees will be able to choose from a three day workshop on the long weekend of June 6, 7 & 8, followed by a two day workshop on the 10 & 11 June.

There is also an option to attend both workshops over the entire 5 days.

Students will learn techniques to skilfully handle paintings filled with sunlight and produce works that are bold and confident. Students will be covering tonal values, composition, brushwork, colour saturation and focal points in OIL or ACRYLICS.

Colley Whisson is an internationally recognised artist, author, teacher and judge.

He has been teaching primarily in the USA and in Europe for the last 15 or so years, and now plans more workshops throughout Australia rather than overseas.

He is based north of Brisbane where he was born and grew up. Under the guidance of his father, renowned artist Eric Whisson, he commenced oil painting in 1986 at the age of 20 and has long been considered a leading artist of his generation. Eric Whisson painted landscapes in oil and was a tutor at the Royal Queensland Art Society.

Colley Whisson’s first solo exhibition was a sell out at the age of 24. Since then Colley has held numerous solo and joint exhibitions, also writing magazine articles and 2 books. His demonstration DVD’S are collected by students worldwide.

At an early age he mastered the most difficult technique of all – painting light – which has become synonymous with his work. Colley paints with precision to convey the purest message possible and strives to capture spontaneous loose impressions.
