Presented by Linda Nye and Liz Powell
Saturday 6 June – Saturday 4 July
In this joint exhibition by Linda Nye and Liz Powell the artists explore their different approaches to landscape through a series of oil and acrylic paintings, mixed media prints and artists books.
Their work investigates how landscape can be interpreted from an imaginative, and personal viewpoint.
Landscapes can be internal and external and how people act upon and within the landscape, what they leave behind, what cultural imprints have been made are all elements in a story a landscape can tell.
Artists Statements
Linda Nye is a contemporary landscape painter and uses her work to illustrate the uniqueness of Australian landscapes.
The New England Ranges where she lives provides her with endless inspiration with its granite boulder outcrops, cool winters and colourful autumns.
She also likes to create a storyline, of life on the land and stories of long forgotten people and the harsh landscapes they lived in.
She loves to experiment with colour and texture, which she has developed in a unique style
Liz Powell uses mixed media to construct artists books and standalone prints, drawing material from her environment in the New England, places she has travelled to and her interests in history and storytelling.
Her work refers to abandoned sites, backyards and sheds and the nature of storytelling in general.
This can lead her into the landscape of folk tales and the imagination.
